Abstract

Analytical solutions of the diffusion equation confirm that the principal site of evaporative water loss in the sub-stomatal chamber is the chamber wall immediately adjacent to the inner aperture of the stomatal pore.

A network analogue for the evaporative process is used to confirm that sufficiently intense evaporation produces pore narrowing.
